Iris and Ruby

Iris was born today (March 27th) at 3.27. She weighed in at 3745 grams and has been a bundle of joy (and sleep) all day. I’m exhausted, but intensely happy. Iris and her mom are doing great and Ruby seems to be quite happy with her newborn sister.

The 27th of March is also Quentin Tarantino’s birthday btw… :)

Triggered by a comment on my recent Flash SEO post I decided to set up my own experiment to find out if, and to what extent search engines index Flash content.

Flower gif

Ever since I released my Tranquility and Tranquility White WordPress themes, I’ve been getting emails about the Flash file used in both themes. People like to customize their theme, and the supplied swf file is locked. This was done on purpose, as I consider it to be a finished piece of Flash art. I originally created it for my daughter Ruby when she was born, and I feel it should not be messed with.

However, keeping source code to yourself is not a very open source minded thing to do and I’ve learned a lot from looking at other people’s code. Which is why I decided to post the original fla file. Please be gentle with it.

WordPress.org has just released a critical update for their blogging software. Version 2.1.2 fixes malicious modifications that were introduced by a hacker who somehow got access to the download server. Or as Matt puts it:

Long story short: If you downloaded WordPress 2.1.1 within the past 3-4 days, your files may include a security exploit that was added by a cracker, and you should upgrade all of your files to 2.1.2 immediately.

I’ve just finished upgrading my blogs, and you should to. Spread the word!

Man. I thought the Web Developer extension for Firefox was extremely cool, but this very useful add-on to the world’s best browser is an even better equipped toolbox for front-end developers. You can tweak every little code detail right from the browser and see the results instantly. I found the option to temporarily disable individual lines of CSS code to be very useful. A must have for web designers.
