I just found out Hosting Zoom has been charging my credit card for hosting for months even though I don't have an account with them. Their sign up procedure errored out and while I never used their service they charged me anyway. The bad part is even AFTER I notified Michelle Barnhill in their billing department they kept billing me and refused to give me a refund. It took contacting American Express and the Better Business Bureau to get a refund. I can't speak to their services as I've never used them but I sure wouldn't recommend their customer no-service!

I too am experiencing problems with Hosting Zoom and I'm starting to look out for an alternative. My problem has been their mail server. My emails are constantly getting blocked because their server is getting flagged for spam. I contacted them about it a number of times and they have responded by getting it de-listed from the blocking lists but it keeps getting relisted so they are not addressing the core problem. They responded fairly quickly to my first emails about the problem but I got no response to my last 2 emails and I cannot send emails from that account for the last 2 days.

They are very cheap but it starts to get expensive real fast in terms of the amount of my own time I have to waste reporting problems and the reliability really sucks.

Funny thing is that HZ came very highly recommended on the few trustworthy forums about hosting as well.

MediaTemple is quite a bit more expensive isn't it? You usually get what you pay for. With HZ you pay little and get a relatively decent deal imho. MT is upwards from $25/month, which will probably buy you far better hosting.

I used to have a reseller server with hosting zoom last year. I had a horrible experience the entire time I used them and eventually made the switch to MediaTemple.

I wrote a bit about the lovely Hosting Zoom a while back:

http://www.younggogetter.com/2007/02/27/how-to-lose-a-customer-with-the-least-amount-of-effort/

MediaTemple has been incredible, provides 24/7 phone and e-mail support, and has the fastest dedicated servers I've ever used. Their admin and Plesk is a million times easier to use and pleasant to the eye compared to cpanel.

Hosting Zoom just left a horrible taste in my mouth.

Well, even on one of the older servers, since I installed a proram to keep track of www.suzero.com's uptime I have discovered that it is down quite regularly too. But usually for no more than 6 minutes or so.
