It’s been five years since Matt released WordPress 0.7. I think it’s quite an accomplishment that (and how) WordPress has managed to evolve into a very mature blogging solution with all the right features and no bloat whatsoever. I switched to WP (from Movable Type, like so many others) in 2005, and it has since become my favorite CMS solution. I’ve been using it professionally for a while now, and have made quite a few customers very happy.
So here’s to you, WordPress. May you continue to evolve the way you did!
I’ve been connected to my LAN through the air for a couple of years now, and I’ve had some pretty mixed experiences. My Linksys WRT54G router is a marvel, and has yet to fail me. The adapters I’ve used with my PC however have for the must part not been able to keep up. And, as I realized today, they all happen to be made by Sitecom. More Cheap WLAN adapter trouble
I’ve just uploaded a new version of WP-Cumulus. Version 1.03 attemps to fix compatibility issues, adds a widget, speed control and several other little things. See here for the changelog.
Update
With the help of Mujahid (and several others), I’ve been able to track down the cause of the “it kills my blog” error. I turns out I was closing PHP’s output buffer once too often, which PHP version 5.2 and newer does not like very much. All should be well for these users with version 1.04. Can’t tell you how relieved I am.
WP-Cumulus is now open source. So instead of going through the documentation below you can download it and have a look inside. See http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-cumulus/ for more info. You can get the development version which includes the sources from the download page.
To fix an XSS vulnerability, Version 1.23 of the plugin no longer supports calling ‘javascript:’ links from tags. If you need the Flash movie to interface with javascript, I recommend downloading the source files and implementing AS3′s ExternalInterface class to handle communication.
I know. This is basically silly, but some system tray icons bug the hell out of me. Here part of my current setup. See the mushroom sticking out like a sore thumb? I love Cobian Backup, and have recently installed it as a service, but the tray icon is making me itch. Codenamed “Amanita”, version 9 of course needed a mushroom icon, but compared to the black moon icon of version 8 this is pretty bad. A slightly more sedate colour scheme would be nice, as well a proper anti-aliasing.
Unfortunately, I can find no option to change the icon under Vista Home Premium, so I guess I’ll have to live with it. Seen against the greater scheme of things this is of course only a minor gripe, but if anyone knows an easy fix, please drop me a comment.
I’ve been enjoying Suzero’s line of “incompetent companies” posts, so I thought I’d join in…
The internet is where you go to get a good deal, right? I order tons of stuff online, and have had only very few negative experiences. That’s why I felt quite confident ordering a cab to the airport (Schiphol, Amsterdam in my case) through taxi2airport.com. Big mistake. More Taxi2airport.com = no show
I haven’t been using this website as a personal blog for a while now, but I’m just too proud to not put this up . During our visit to Mallorca, Iris decided that walking had become a priority, and after a couple of days of practice she’s now very keen to show of her new skills.
This is the personal blog of Roy Tanck, designer, geek, entrepreneur and WordPress enthusiast. It's also the home of projects like WP-Cumulus (a 3D tag cloud for WordPress), my Flickr widget, Gunfollow (the Twitter hitman) and Snapatar.com. More about me here, or you can follow me on Twitter.
