the aspire one sells for only $250 now in wal-mart, making it the cheapest and easiest to aquire laptop i’ve ever had. 8.9 inch screen at 1024×600 is much better for the web, but not as tall as i’d like. the keyboard is miles better, too. i may buy another one just for a spare, and leave it in the box.

i love mine.

My daughters also love TuxPaint. Also, installing and updating software with Ubuntu is the easiest thing ever.

@Erik: The screen is too small for surfing. Pretty much every website out there is 1024px wide or more. The 10″ Eee-PCs might work, but the dot pitch is still pretty small. If you get an Eee-box instead, you can add a monitor of your own choice.

I’m not sure Asus offers their custom user interface (big buttons, very easy) for Windows machines, but that would probably be great.

Leuk om te lezen, en informatief. Mijn dochter is net vier, maar ik ben meer op de uitkijk naar een laptop voor mijn… oma! Kan dit ook een handige voor haar zijn, denk je? Ik denk eens niet zozeer aan de prijs, maar aan de gebruiksvriendelijkheid, en misschien het beperkte beeldscherm. Kun je er wel fatsoenlijk mee webbrowsen?

@Faisal: The Aspire One would set me back more than double what this Eee-PC now costs. A year after being introduced, and with several more advanced machines now available, prices have dropped incredibly.

I checked out the EEPC before buying my Acer Aspire one for my daughter, it makes her squeal with love aaaaand lets me do my stuff as well, 120gb hard drive as well, you should check it out. Great blog by the way!!!
