About me
Hi. I’m Roy. Welcome to my blog. I’m a web designer and developer located in The Netherlands. My wife and I have two adorable little daughters and a cat. I’ve been a web professional since 1997 and a blogger since 2002. In 2002, I co-authored a book called “Byte-size Flash MX“, which dealt with optimizing Flash files.
I love going to the movies, and I’ve written over a hundred movie reviews on Choking on Popcorn, which I set up with Suzero in 2002. On January 1st, 2008 I quit my job as a Flash developer to focus on WordPress, Flash and freelance web design.
Subject matter
Over the last few years I’ve become what I call an ‘optimistic environmentalist’. When it comes to the current ecological crisis, I believe technology will move towards being more sustainable and eventually save the day. I try to write about breakthroughs in low power computing when they’re created.
Another issue I’m passionate about is Open Source software. I use WordPress professionally, Linux whenever I can and have released some of my work under GPL. The concept of free software appeals to me, and I’d love to be able to move away from commercial software altogether.
This blog is also the home of my WordPress plugins and other projects.
Feel free to follow me on Twitter.

Roy,
I just discovered your Wp-Cumulus rotatable tag cloud. That is awesome.
I wonder if we could get it to work on a site and blog that is based on TikiWiki instead of WordPress.
Any thoughts?
–Bill
Comment by Bill Albing — January 27, 2009 @ 9:44 pm
Hi Bill. This site probably has all the documentation you’d need to port Cumulus to TikiWiki. You’re completely welcome to give it a try
. I myself can’t possibly port it to all the other platforms out there, the WP version has been taking up way too much free time already.
The Flash movie’s interface is really quite simple, so it shouldn’t be too hard to do.

Yeah I see… Main’s not loading… (index.php) =) I’m thinking of starting free-theme business.. These designers get so much PageRank, but don’t know what to do with it! Abd I think I know what to do… But haven’t got it.. =)

Hi Roy
I had a problem with the WP-Cumulus Plugin, it’s working good in my site but the functions of my submenu under the main banner stopped working.
That menu and the left have the role of categories like your plugin, but when I installed it ceased to operate.
I hope you could help me to fix that issue please.
Thank you
hope to hear from you shortly
Thanks
Dennis

Very impressed by your wp-cumulus plugin. I really enjoy the plugin itself – there’s a lot of possibilities for something like this.
Keep up the great work!

Hi Roy,
I liked your plugins for wp, is there a version of tagnetic poetry for ordinary sites as well? Would love to get my hands on that if you do.
Comment by Joz — October 21, 2009 @ 12:01 pm
Hi Joz. There isn’t but the tutorials for using WP-Cumulus outside of WP apply to TP for the most part too. The flashvars are different, but you could find them in the php file.

How do I get to show ONLY on my blog page?
Comment by REbecca — October 30, 2009 @ 9:39 pm
Nice plugin you have there! I really like it. I would say it’s kind of ubiquitous these days: you can find all over the place, not only in Wordpress. Keep up the good work!

Roy,
I’ve installed WP-Cumulus under wordpress 2.8.6 and it works but the “bubble” is so left indented (not centerd on the width XXX pixels that i’ve setted. Could you help me please?
Comment by Eduardo — January 13, 2010 @ 1:52 pm
Thanks for the cloud tag.
Comment by sundeep machado — January 21, 2010 @ 7:41 am
Eduardo, did you change the settings under Settings->Wp-Cumulus, or inside the widget (Appearance->Widgets)? Depending on whether you’re using the widget or not, you need to change it in the right place.
Comment by Roy — January 21, 2010 @ 9:49 am
dear roy,
thank you for the cumulus plugin – we have ported it for a german open source cms without any problems.
Comment by seb — January 25, 2010 @ 2:35 pm
dear roy,
i have a little problem with ur 3d cloud.
i want to include it here (http://goodbois.de/blog/)
soo the prob is this theme supports no widgets. and i cant change the size or color of the cloud
or better: i tried to change it in the pluginsource, but it doesnt work.
Comment by jessie — February 10, 2010 @ 3:28 pm
Jessie, dont’t change the plugin’s code. The settings are under Settings -> WP-Cumulus. The values in the plugin’s code are merely defaults that get set upon install.
