Joost de Valk on WordPress SEO

I don’t like ‘re-blogging’. I try and write original stuff and not point to other people’s posts. This video however is essential if you’re serious about SEO and WordPress, and you haven’t seen it already you really should. My fellow countryman Joost de Valk talks about SEO and shares some great tips. The video is after the break.

  1. Great find–reblogging is a good idea when the video is as useful as this one!

  2. As I am currently setting up a wordpress blog for my fitness website, this post was great. I actually took notes, outlining all of the plugins he mentions as well some of the points he made. I wanted to paste it here in the comment section, but it didn’t seem to work. I guess a comment with a ton of links in it looks like spam? If you’re interested in this, go to my website and click on “Site Updates”. I’ll post my notes on Joosts talk there.

  4. Argh! I wish the videographer spent some time filming the screen instead of Joost the whole time!

  6. One of the latest link building fads seem to be commenting on peoples blogs. Now personally I think this is a good idea, everyone seems to be a winner, blog want reader, SEO want link from multiple different blogs. Everyones happy. (It does tend to create a whole loads of complete rubbish conversation completely built to get post by hay no victims there).

  7. well I think blogging is a good technique for link building, blogging is good but i think think reblogging would be advantageous.

  8. This is a really beautiful theme, what is it?

    Comment by Tropical Fish Tanks — June 20, 2009 @ 11:57 am

    • Hi TFT. This is a custom built theme for this website. A friend of mine did the illustrations, and I coded it. No plans to release it, but we’re both available for freelance work.

  9. Hi Roy,

Sorry, this is off topic. I agree with TFT that I like this theme too. Why don’t you offer this theme for free download for providing you more backlinks (In case you still need them, LOL)?

  10. Hi Antoony. The main problem is the title, which is an image. Plus the little cloud around it wouldn’t support longer blog titles. Also, in my experience, once I take everything that’s specific to my blog out of a template like this, there’s nothing left. It’ll just be a soul-less empty shell, because the custom stuff and the content make it into what it is.

A theme needs to look good empty in order for it to work on other blogs. And this one particularly isn’t very well-coded and doesn’t offer anything beyond what you’re seeing (no custom widgets or theme options).

  11. OK Roy, I get it. I hope in the next time you will consider make this one become well-coded and has customs widget. Because I like to see clear, clean and fresh like this one. See you later.

  14. Yes I have a problem watching the video and the title seems very interesting so was dissapointed. It basically says sorry this video does not exist on the video.

I wonder if the site owner can correct this and i will check back soon

    Thanks Mark
